Armani accused of workplace discrimination by ex-general counsel

Many Florida readers may be aware of the Armani high-fashion clothing line. Behind the scenes, an employee claims that he was treated poorly and then fired because of his national origin and his disability. He is bringing his $75 million workplace discrimination case before a Supreme Court to try to right the wrongs against him.

The plaintiff was hired in 2014 as Armani's general counsel. From the beginning, he alleges that things did not start off on the right foot. The CFO apparently told the plaintiff multiple times that he distrusts Mexicans. Because the plaintiff is Mexican, it made him feel uncomfortable. Later, one of the plaintiff's co-workers had mentioned the plaintiff's national origin to his superiors, and from that point on, things changed.

The man alleges that he was placed under intense scrutiny and criticized for every little thing that he did. The plaintiff could no longer tolerate the disparate treatment and claims he reported the situation to Armani's COO, but nothing came of it. He claims that he continued to work hard and receive great reviews, but he was not able to get a salary increase. When the plaintiff spoke out against the retaliation, he was told that if he did not like the situation, he could just quit, but he had no intention of leaving.

After being diagnosed with operable colon cancer, the plaintiff informed his superiors, but he alleges that he was fired minutes after he disclosed his condition. The plaintiff claims he was told the reason for his termination was because he could no longer be trusted. Complaints about workplace discrimination should never lead to retaliation against the workers. Florida individuals who feel that they have been aggrieved can turn to the legal system to pursue applicable claims.
