Florida paramedic files sexual harassment claim

Feeling comfortable while on the job should be something that all workers are able to experience. Unfortunately, some workers may have to deal with environments in which some of their coworkers or supervisors could create a hostile situation. Some female workers may feel that this is the case if they work in a male-dominated profession that results in sexual harassment while on the job.

A female paramedic working for a fire station in Florida is currently seeking a case after she claims she was sexually harassed while on the job. The situation reportedly began when she reported to her supervisor that a considerable amount of sexually inappropriate behaviors and materials were appearing on the job. She claims that after bringing the situation to the attention of her superiors, she was treated with hostility and harassed.

Representation for the fire station said that an investigation was opened after the female worker’s complaints but that no serious issues were found that needed attention. It was apparently after the conclusion of this investigation that the female paramedic moved forward with her legal actions. She filed a complaint with the EEOC claiming that she was subjected to pornographic materials and inappropriate actions in the workplace.

Sexual harassment can take place in any profession, but workers should not feel that it is so commonplace that they should stay quiet about it. As this situation shows, if adequate actions are not taken after a complaint to supervisors, more serious tactics may need to be considered. If Florida workers feel that they have been subjected to inappropriate behaviors in the workplace, they may wish to consider filing their own legal complaint.
